Local taxi company robbed

Last night, the local taxi cab was robbed in Nugent street, Macleay Island. The taxi was empty at the time, and no-one has been injured, but all of the days takings, and personal items belonging to the driver were stolen. The vehicle was secured and parked out the front of a house for approximately 15 minutes unattended. Fundraising effort for Soi Dog shelter for rescued dogs

A local Russell Island resident, Melissa Warne has started a fundraising campaign to raise money and awareness for a shelter for rescued dogs. The goal is to raise $500 to erect a 'sala' shelter in Buriram, Northern Thailand. Every year, tens of thousands of dogs are rescued in the region, saved from being butchered by cruel and barbaric methods for the dog meat trade. (more…)

Local pizza shop now accepting online orders

The local Macleay Island pizza shop 'Mummas Pizza Cafe' has just announced that they will soon be accepting online ordering and payments via their new website and upcoming iPhone app. They will also be offering free delivery on Macleay Island, for all orders over $15. They can also do 'jetty drops' for customers on neighbouring islands. (more…)

SMBI promotional video by local business

Bay Islands Photography, a relatively new local business has started production on a short promotional film for the Bay Islands. It was originally going to be a very short feature on Macleay Island, but as word has spread and interest has grown, it has now been expanded to include all 4 of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands. Video editing is handled by a sister company Wishie Multimedia. The goal is to make a video that will not only promote the island on the mainland and interstate, but also hopefully inspire people that live on the islands to take a look around, and soak in all the beauty the islands have to offer. Bay Islands Photography are also looking for people to assist in the 'filming' of this video, as well as other photographers to provide any images they would like included in the final product. They are also open to submissions from local musicians, so that their music may be included in the final production. They plan on releasing a DVD with the short video…
